Air Conditioner Security Cages
Cyclone dust extractors, or dust separators, are an essential part of any woodworking shop. Without cyclone dust extractors, fine dust left in the air can lead to many serious health problems.
Cyclone dust extractors use a relatively simple system for separating dust from air by first sucking the polluted, dust laden air into a cone. Once inside, the centrifugal force caused by the shape of the cone and the pressure from a fan and blower (in cyclone dust extractors this is called a centrifugal pressure blower) cause the dust to collect along the sides of the cone, while heavier pieces of wood/dust drop down to a collection bin below the cone. This centrifugal action is very much like a cyclone – from which the device derives its name. Much of the dust collected in the cone part of cyclone dust extractors is then blown out another opening which either blows the dust outside, or into some other sort of collection device.
Different cone diameters of cyclone dust extractors can affect the dust loads it is capable of handling as well as how well it collects dust. For example, smaller cone diameters on cyclone dust extractors are able to collect and separate dust more efficiently than cones with a larger diameter, but due to their smaller size, can become clogged if the amount of dust it collects is too much. Likewise, cyclone dust extractors with larger cones are able to handle greater amounts of dust, but generate less centrifugal force with which to separate the dust inside.
In short, cyclone dust extractors, designed by nature, but perfected by air engineers, are a simple yet imperative piece to any woodshop dust collection system.
