Specializing in food plant production systems, including stainless steel conveyors, TSM Houston understands that the equipment material and the conveyed material must complement each other, or production/maintenance problems can ensue.  For example, at a food products plant in Los Angeles, CA., the conveyor had to be removed once a week for cleaning, due to issues resulting from vegetable oil.  The oil softened the belting, which in turn caused the canvas webbing to become oil impregnated, and extremely difficult to clean.

Situations such as these would gain a high advantage through the use of stainless steel conveyors.  Intralox® belting would avoid any adverse complications brought on by a reaction with the oil. 

Other benefits of stainless steel conveyors include corrosion resistant construction achieved by replacing steel components with stainless steel or electroless nickel-plated components to help prevent or minimize rust. Since stainless steel conveyors are typically used for “washdown” conditions, where corrosion can present a problem.  Corrosion is one of the primary maintenance issues with any steel product, especially with machinery involving moving parts.  Along with stainless steel, anodized aluminum is also used on some surfaces to prevent rusting, as well as on many of the side and guide rail profiles.
